Hello everyone! In this blog, we are going to explore Rishikesh from our lenses.
Rishikesh is located in Uttarakhand, and everyone must pay a visit to this holy heritage of India once in their lifetime.
You might be wondering what’s there in Rishikesh?
Let’s start with the 10 places or things to do in Rishikesh.
Best Time to Visit Rishikesh
The best time to travel to Rishikesh is any month of the year, except the monsoon season (July to end of August).
River Rafting – The Ultimate Adventure
Rishikesh is a hub for river rafting. It is one of the best places to visit for adventure sports.
Whether you want to go for a short 9 km or a long 36 km expedition, the price differs as per the distance.
Rates start from ₹500 to ₹2,500 per person, including pickup and drop from the booking office.
There are so many rafting agents that advance booking is not required — you can just walk in.
It may look scary at first, but it turns out to be a thrilling and fun-filled adventure, creating memories forever.
“Keep run guys! Forward, forward everyone!”
Ziplining, Giant Swing, and Bungee Jumping
You can also try out ziplining, giant swing, or bungee jumping at a height of 109 meters.
Patna Waterfalls – A Hidden Gem
Patna Waterfalls is just a 10-minute drive from Laxman Jhula Bridge, but not many are aware of it.
So, you won’t see much crowd, and you can enjoy peaceful time in the midst of greenery.
After arriving via the main route, there’s a 15-minute uphill hike to reach the waterfalls.
You may not be able to take a plunge here, but you can surely enjoy the view.
There’s also a small shop nearby for chai and Maggi.
In April, there isn’t much water, but locals say that during monsoon the water flow is so heavy that people cannot even reach the falls.
Neer Waterfalls & Kayak Sunset Point
Neer Waterfalls is located on the way to Kayak Sunset Point.
It was heavily crowded as it was easily accessible from the road.
So, we just stopped for a few minutes and continued to the sunset viewpoint at Kayak.
Kayak is a great place to spend a beautiful evening with friends watching the sunset.
From here, the view of the city is mesmerizing, and the shape of River Ganga looks like an ‘M’.
There are few shops where you can sip coffee and enjoy the moment.
Secret Waterfalls – A Hidden Paradise
Secret Waterfall is a stunning natural spot surrounded by lush greenery.
To reach here, you need to drive 20 minutes from Tapovan, followed by a 15-minute walk.
There’s a natural swimming pool formed by the waterfall where you can relax in the tranquil waters.
There’s also a pretty café nearby which serves delicious food and has Wi-Fi.
Bikes can reach till the café, although the terrain is a bit rough.
Vashishta Cave – A Spiritual Spot
Vashishta Cave is dedicated to Guru Vashishta, said to be the place where he lived and meditated.
It’s located next to the River Ganga.
You can meditate inside the cave and spend some peaceful time on the riverbank afterward — a different and calming experience.
Ram Jhula & Laxman Jhula Bridges
There are two famous bridges in Rishikesh — Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula.
Laxman Jhula has been under maintenance for a long time.
Ram Jhula, a suspension bridge built in 1980, is best visited in the evening when it glows under glittering lights.
Ganga Aarti – A Spiritual Experience
You can witness Ganga Aarti at two places:
Parmarth Niketan – Daily from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Go early to find a good spot, as it gets very crowded.
Triveni Ghat – Also starts at 6:00 PM. The Aarti here looks amazing.
Entry is free at both places, but if you want to perform the Aarti, you need to book and pay a day in advance.
It’s better to take a Tuk-Tuk as parking is limited — but remember to bargain as prices are usually high.
Sunrise at Kunjapuri Devi Temple
Kunjapuri Devi Temple is a famous sunrise point, but we didn’t visit as we were too exhausted after full days of exploring.
However, here’s the info:
You can go with a tour group or your own vehicle.
Start around 4:00 AM, drive 45 minutes, and then hike up.
The whole trip takes 5 to 6 hours.B
Beatles Ashram – A Historic Spot
Rishikesh has a Beatles connection.
The famous English band spent around 2 months in a meditation camp here, inspired by their Guru’s teachings.
This is how the Beatles Ashram became popular — especially among millennials.
Timings and entry fee apply.
Though the place is not well maintained, the ruins look beautiful.
Conclusion
Enjoy your time in Rishikesh!
